His funeral is on Friday 20th January at 1300hrs at the Newcastle Crematorium. The REA PCS Association send their condolences to Nick's family. General stuff - removed from Home page -30 Nov 2011Joe Norwood's funeral will be held at 1115hrs on Wednesday 30th November at St Peters Church, Yaxley, Peterborough. Flowers or donations to Cancer Research UK can be sent to Claypole Funeral Directors, 37 Main Street, Yaxley, Peterborough, PE7 TL2. Chris Connaughton has informed us of the sad news that Joe Norwood passed away early this morning (22 Nov). We have lost another one of 'Posties' great characters who was well known for his humerous personality. RIP Joe. The REA PCS send their Deepest Sympathy to Sue and all his family. Then afterwards at New Farnley Community Centre LS12 5EA. No black ties and no black for the ladies. Family flowers only, donations can be made at the Church for the Help for Heroes Fund. Stuart Cambridge has passed on the sad news that John Pickford died suddelnly on his way back from holiday, he was 53. The REA PCS branch send their Condolences to Delaine and family. I apologise for the quality but this is how I received them William Skeel has been presented with his Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal, visit the Photograph page to see the presentation. Also read his Recollections of his time with 40 Postal Unit RE in 1960 on The Recollections page Colin Stables and his colleagues have raised the magnificent sum of £6846.81 for Help for Heroes by completing the Maryport Coastal Walk 2011. This is the second year the walk has been done and it brings their total raised to the Grand sum of £13,842.04. See their photos on the Photograph Page. Well done to everyone who took part. General stuff - removed from Home page -6 June 2011Dave Muckle writes: Well the time is upon us for the planning to become reality, we leave on Saturday 4th June. We will be in Chatham Dockside tomorrow (Fri 3 June) at the Ship and Trades Pub from 10am, we're being measured for our special dvt socks by a couple of nurses - should be fun! The BBC are coming down to do some filming so watch the local news tomorrow night, we migh be on it. There are also the photo sessions that we have to do for sponsors and alike, I hate having my photo taken, don't know why coz I'm gordeous but there you go. On Saturday morning the tracker system goes live on our website www.greatescape2.net follow the link and you can follow us as we make our way around Europe, hopefully there won't be too many circles as I've done the routes, could be embarrassing. Lou Lister has informed us that a former LAM member Alan Johnson has passed away. Unfortunately we have no other details. Margaret Grant was informed yesterday that Brenda Daley (nee Rossiter) passed away on 25th May. Brenda served in Postal late 50's early 60's and she was a member of the WRAC Postal Branch and the REPS Association. Details of the funeral are not known yet. Dennis and Gina were both at the REunion at Newcastle at the weekend ferried there and back from Doncaster by Derek and Maggie Watt and Dennis was in good spirits when they left him Sunday afternoon. Gina our thoughts are with you at this sad time. See his certificate and letter of thanks on the Photographs page Mark Atwell & David Thornton have completed their charity bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats and have so far raised £750 for H4H Mick Atkinson and his team of ladies did a bike ride for Help for Heroes around Goole on Saturday 2 October and finished at 1300hrs outside the Old Goole Working Men's Club. The amount raised so far with donations via the REA PCS, Old Goole Working Men's Club and the Mill Hill PCS Veterans' Association is £1,130. Mick says 'THANK YOU ALL, THIS WAS A TREMENDOUS EFFORT, it brought a tear to my eye. The monies have been paid into H4H.' Well done to Mick & his team and thanks to Lou Lister for the photos. As many of you know from Lou's entries on the Guest Book, Legs had been in hospital for several months. Many ex Postal knew or have heard of Legs and will have their own stories & memories of a larger than life character. He will be greatly missed in the family of ex Posties. RIP Legs.
