Return to Events Page Royal Engineers Korean Veterans' ReunionThere are many dates associated with Korean War reunions in 2003 and it has been proposed that the Corps will take a leading part in two. There will be the main National event planned for Wed 9 Jul 03 with a service in Westminster Abbey and a Parade in Whitehall. The second event will be a Corps sponsored Reunion at Chatham over the weekend of 26/27 Jul 03. The format of this event will depend on the number of those Veterans (all ranks) who would wish to attend. Wives would also be most welcome. The event will be publicised through REA branches. To help gauge reaction to the proposal, if you are a Korean Veteran and would wish to take part in either the London or Chatham event (or both), could you please inform the Corps by one of the methods shown below. It is emphasised that at this stage we are looking for a declaration of interest, NOT a firm commitment. By letter to: RE Museum - Call for Collection! Korea 1950-53The RE Museum is putting on a special, temporary exhibition, set to open on 26 Jul 03 which will tell the story of Sapper experiences during the Korean conflict. We have some documents and memorabilia in the collection but would like to show more. Do any "Sapper" readers who served in Korea have artefacts and documents or anything else of the period relating to the war? Would you be able to lend us any items for the exhibition? Alternatively would you consider donating something for the exhibition, which would afterwards become part of the museum's permanent collection? If you can help us, we would be very grateful if you would contact us. Telephone us on BT: (+44) (0)1634 406397 and ask for Rebecca Cheney, Beverley Williams or Craig Bowen.
We also intend to set up an oral history project for RE Korean War reminiscences and will, in the New Year, start to interview those who are interested in working together with us on this very important project. The experiences of all Sappers taking part could be used in the text of : the exhibition (anonymously if preferred). However we mainly wish to record these compelling stories to become part a permanent memoir in the archive at the RE Museum.
